The Indian leather and footwear industry has employed a total of 3,45,676 youth under the Human Resource Development (HRD) sub-scheme of the Indian Leather Development Programme (ILDP), along with the inflow of FDI worth $53.64 million, the minister of state for commerce and industry CR Chaudhary said this in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
Under 'Make in India' Action Plan, it was envisaged to provide training and placement to 3 million unemployed youth for all stages of leather development. During the last three financial years i.e. 2014-15, 2015-16 & 2016-17, a total of 4,27,865 unemployed persons were provided skill development. (RR)
