A textile processing unit and a tannery unit based in Erode, Tiruppur were inspected by a collector as they were operating in the confines of the city.
The team consisting of District Environment Engineer, officials from Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, Tahsildar, Corporation’s Assistant Commissioner and Land Surveyor inspected the textile processing unit at Suriyampalayam village, led by Collector C. Kathiravan.
A tannery unit at B.P. Agraharam was also inspected by the team to check whether the effluents were discharged as per the norms fixed by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
As per the directions from the National Green Tribunal (Southern Zone), the inspection was carried out by the officials to ensure that the units followed the norms, including zero liquid discharge.
A report had to be submitted by the officials to the collector regarding the inspection. The team checked the effluent treatment plant, solid waste management system in the unit, safe disposal of toxic waste and whether the unit had encroached upon the water body.
The officials were asked to keep an eye on the safety aspects of the unit and make sure that environment is not harmed.
