The textile industry in Surat, hub of man made fibre industry in India, observed voluntary bandh to on August 17, mourning the death of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
All 700 units remained shut to pay respect to the late minister who was cremated on August 17 at Smriti Sthal in New Delhi.
A condolence meeting is also scheduled to take place at Millennium Market on Saturday to pay respect to the great leader who breathed his last at age of 93 on August 16.
According to Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA) secretary Champalal Bothra the entire textile industry is saddened after the loss of Atal ji.
The entire stretch from the BJP headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg to to Smriti Sthal where Vajpayee’s final journey culminated was flooded with people from every nook and corner of the country. Everybody was eager to have a last glimpse of their leader.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah led the mourners on foot the entire distance.
