Panipat’s dyers to keep their units closed on Saturdays

news image

Due to increasing price of coal and chemicals, the dyeing industry of Panipat is facing challenges.

The dyers of the textile city have collectively decided to keep their units closed during the weekend as they are not in a position to continue with their business. It’s noteworthy that workers will not be paid for Saturdays.

It is worth mentioning here that recently coal price has grown more than double, while the chemical price has also grown by almost two-folds. This has a cascading impact on the industry as dyers have increased their charges by almost 20 percent.

Panipat, a leading hub of home furnishing, has an annual dyeing business of around Rs. 25,000 crore. There are more than 450 dyeing houses in the city.

Bhim Rana, President, Panipat Dyers Association, said that dyers have been forced to take these decisions as they can’t survive in the current scenario. Labour cost has also increased, as a result of which they don’t have any options apart from cutting cost.

The textile industry of Panipat was already facing the challenge of high yarn price and now challenges with the dyeing unit have increased the industry’s problems.
