The apparel imports of India have reached US $ 777.35 million in Jan.-Sep. ’21, noting 25 per cent Y-o-Y growth.
According to Ministry of Commerce and Industry (India), woven clothing imports have remained stagnant as the segment increased by just 6.75 per cent and the imports valued US $ 402.75 million in the first 9-month period of 2021.
On the other hand, knitted clothing has witnessed a significant increase of 53.12 per cent on Y-o-Y basis to value US $ 374.60 million in the mentioned period.
The data analysed by Apparel Resources’ data analysis team indicates that China continues to see decline in its apparel exports in the Indian market, especially due to massive fall in woven clothing shipment (down 56.87 per cent).
India imported US $ 183.21 million worth of garments from China, falling 22.13 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
Bangladesh yet again proved to be the top importing destination for the Indian apparel buyers with total import value reaching US $ 318.56 million – that’s 67.64 per cent yearly growth.
