India is proud on the performance of its players in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics. However, what’s pleasing is to see a textile firm initiating efforts to promote Indian sports.
That’s what Vardhman Textiles is doing, which has been constantly supporting games and athletes by creating infrastructure for society as well as individual players.
The company is globally known for its quality yarns and variety of fabrics.
At a cost of Rs. 1.84 crore, the company has developed a double-storeyed sports complex comprising a Badminton hall and a gymnasium, along with changing rooms, lockers and toilet blocks, amongst others.
This beautifully designed sports complex is an initiative to promote nationally recognised sports and contribute to the training facilities for the aspirants who strive to excel in the field and contribute to enhancing the prestige of the country at global sports events.The sports facility located inside the Civil Lines Police Complex will benefit the Police personnel and over 4,000 students of Police DAV Public School. The facility will encourage and help train future sports personnel by providing access to the enabling infrastructure.
It was inaugurated by Dinkar Gupta, Director-General of Police, Punjab in the presence of other senior police officials and IMJS Sidhu, Director, Vardhman Textiles. Dinkar Gupta appreciated the contribution made by Vardhman saying that “current times have re-emphasised the value of staying healthy and active.”
IMJS Sidhu re-iterated Group’s commitment to the sustainable and holistic development and said, “We have, in the past, helped in uplifting the infrastructure of Government schools & health institutions and find ourselves fortunate to be able to do so. Sports are integral to the overall development and this complex is intended to encourage the rising stars of tomorrow.
In other such progressive step, the company funded the up-gradation of artificial limbs for a differently-abled rising sports star. A financial grant of Rs. 3 lakh has been provided to Akash Mehra for upgrading his artificial legs so that he can participate in Blade Long Jump event. The cheque was handed over to him by DK Sindwani, Director, Vardhman Textiles who appreciated the spirit and courage with which Akash is marching forward to make the country proud.
Akash had lost both his legs in a tragic train accident at a very young age, and is a source of inspiration for everyone as he speaks of focus and goal-orientation. “I am excited about starting my training after I get the upgraded limbs and am grateful to Vardhman for having supported me,” says Akash.
Akash hails from Jalandhar and represented India at National and International Platforms including Asian Youth Para Games 2017, Indian Open Para Athletics Championship 2018, Khel Mahakumbh 2019 and 19th National Para Athletics Championship 2021.
