Tamil Nadu will create a separate department for textiles considering the huge business size and also its growth in the coming decade.

While stating the same, the State Government also announced establishment of textile parks and SIPCOT facilities that would attract huge investments across the value chain of the industry.

These and few more interesting supports were announced by the Tamil Nadu Government in their budget for the year 2021-22.

The setting up of SIPCOT Parks at Rs. 1,500 crore with plug-and-play facility has been the regular demand of Tirupur industry lately and this will now help attract investment from Tirupur entrepreneurs.

Besides, new Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) will be set up for the benefit of existing processing segments in Erode and Namakkal districts.

This will improve the necessary infrastructure for the promotion of Technical Textiles in Tamil Nadu and also completion of Integrated Textile Park in Tirupur.

The Government also announced the construction of labour quarters in Chennai, Coimbatore and other places.

Additionally, there will be an Amnesty Scheme that will also work for settling the disputes of older Value Added Tax (VAT) cases.

Tamil Nadu’s textile and apparel industry has welcomed the budget.

Calling it a pragmatic budget, Raja M. Shanmugham, President, Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) lauded the Government’s intent to improve Tamil Nadu State’s economy in 2-3 years. He was hopeful that Tirupur would also get labour quarters.

Ashwin Chandran, Chairman, The Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) has thanked the Chief Minister MK Stalin for considering several recommendations made by the Association and the textile industry and for making several announcements.
