So far 1.1 million persons have been trained in diverse segments of Textiles under the comprehensive Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) since the financial year 2010-11 to 2017-18. Out of these, 8.43 lakh (75.6 per cent) persons have been employed.
Sharing the above information in Parliament, Ministry of Textiles (MoT) said that it has extended the skill development programme in the form of Samarth (Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile) for a period up to 2023-24, with the objective to provide demand-driven, placement-oriented National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) compliant skilling programmes to incentivise and supplement the efforts of the industry in creating jobs in the organised textile and related sectors, covering the entire value chain of textiles, excluding spinning and weaving in organised sector.
Tamil Nadu is on the top with 6,337 trained persons, while Karnataka is at the second spot with 3,862 trained persons under the Samarth scheme. Uttar Pradesh is at number three with 2,274 trained persons.
Training programme for about 3.3 lakh beneficiaries allocated to various implementing partners, after due process of empanelling and physical verification of training centres, is progressing at various stages.
State-wise details of the progress made in the Samarth scheme are given at Annexure.
Need-based skill upgradation programmes for handloom workers in technical areas viz. weaving, dyeing, designing, etc., earlier conducted under National Handloom Development Scheme, Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme (CHCDS) are now under the Samarth scheme.
